Northern Bear seals deal to buy Jennings

Hot off the press is the news that North West business, Northern Bear, has just sealed a deal to buy Jennings, who is based in Leeds for £5 million.  This follows on the back of a tremendous growth in the past year, following the amalgamation of numerous smaller based North West businesses, to form one company under the banner of Northern Bear. Chairman of Northern Bear, John Pither said: “We are delighted. Jennings brings a high calibre management team and strengthens our spread of North East-based businesses."

Travis Perkin buys Tile Giant 

Tile Giant is to be sold to Travis Perkin in a deal worth £12 million.  Tile Giant, who has a dominant presence in the Midlands and the North of England, showed a pre-tax profit of £300,000 on a turnover of £4m.  Chief operating officer of Travis Perkin, John Carter, said: “Under the leadership of its managing director, Mo Iqbal, Tile Giant has grown rapidly and is set to become a force in this attractive and growing market. We welcome Mo and his management and staff and look forward to further growth.”

The Health & Safety Executive prosecutes two North East construction firms

More construction news has revealed The Health & Safety Executive has successfully prosecuted two North East construction firms to pay out more than £350,000 between them, following the death of one construction worker and a serious injury to another. George Wimpey, and A W Cowan both pleaded guilty to the charges at Teeside Crown Court.

Robert Napier appointed as Chairman of National Regeneration Agency English Partnerships

Robert Napier has been appointed as the Chairman of National Regeneration Agency English Partnerships, by the Housing and planning Minister, Yvette Cooper.  Napier will take up his post in January 2008 where he will continue to chair the English Partnership until the Agency will take up its new name, which is to be headed up as the Homes and Communities Agency.
