Bill of Quantities

Construction Estimating Support, as one of The Country’s leading construction estimating services, adheres to the industry standard, by providing an evaluation or “measure” of the work in providing customers with a bill of quantities.

This allows the work to be quantified in terms of costing and this is done using the rule of “Method of Measurement.”  This in effect, is a form of abbreviation or shorthand, identifying each item.  The measure could be a number, a single item, weight, time which is broken down into hours or week, or it could be a dimension, which can be segmented into square metres, cubic metres, or linear metres.

A bill of quantities works on several levels:

Measured Items of Work

The measured items of work is the detail “measuring” which, when completed, becomes the bill of quantities, so in other words, as part of the Construction estimating service, the measured items of work is the micro information about each item.  These “items” can be the dimensions, time, weight, or a single item, which each receive a “measurement” or a value.

Using the industry standard as required, our estimating construction service is prepared by a “Method of Measurement” applying standard rules to each unit measured.  This ensures there are consistencies across the entire bill of quantities, having applied the same identical mathematical formula per article.

Whilst the measure of items of works is undoubtedly an essential tool to understanding the project, customers should use it in tandem with the specifications and drawings in order to build a full and rounded picture.

As part of the construction estimating service, the bill of quantities will help by providing a cash-flow projections, allowing the customer to identify key problem areas by highlighting these milestones within the project.

This mathematical methodology provides the customer with a multi-dimensional scale which ensures a full evaluative costing as well as giving tenderees a breakdown which will allow ease for quoting for each item.

Model Tender Letter

As part of UK Estimating Support’s commitment to providing a high quality construction estimating service to customers, a model tender letter will be prepared on your behalf.  Following a full consultation with the client in order to gain a full understanding of the project, the model tender letter will be bespoke to each customer’s requirements, depending on the nature of the build, and will take into account, every part of the project.

This will be a generic letter which will outline the inclusions, exclusions and assumptions which will have been gathered during the tender process.  Dependent on the clients’ needs, the tender model letter will be adapted to provide an accurate assessment of the project and as part of the construction estimating service, will be able to be printed off onto the clients’ letterhead along with the terms and conditions, as well as any diagrams and specifications.

Main Contractors Discount

The industry recommends that a main contractors discount figure should be shown on all applications, accounts and invoices which will then be deducted from the customers’ bill. UK Estimating Support's service provides this clarity.
